Dayton 6K778 Motor, 1/3 hp, Split PH, 1725 RPM, 115 V
This Dayton motor was the real upgrade in the Custom Rock Tumbler. The old small tumbler had quit, and the new build needed enough power to turn a larger PVC barrel through a roller and pulley setup without feeling underbuilt.
The motor gave the project a solid foundation. Once it was mounted low in the 2020 frame, the rest of the drive system could be tuned around it: roller rods, belt path, pulley sizing, and barrel speed. It made the tumbler feel like a shop-built tool instead of a repair attempt.
For this project, the motor was not just a replacement part. It was what made the larger barrel and sturdier frame worth building in the first place.
