Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C Pure
I really like Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C Pure because it is easy to use and gives consistently good results. It has become my go-to finish for hardwood pieces on the site: the first side table, the walnut entry table, the Zebrawood and cherub gift boxes, the catch-all tray, the reindeer and sleighs, and the 80th birthday book box all used it because I wanted the wood itself to stay front and center.
This is the finish I reach for when I want the true wood color to stay exposed. The Pure color keeps the wood looking natural instead of pushing it toward a stained look, so walnut, cherry, zebrawood, ash, yellowheart, maple, and mixed hardwood glue-ups can carry the visual interest themselves.
It has worked well across simple furniture parts, carved trays, gift boxes, and decorative hardwood pieces. On these projects, the finish supports the build instead of competing with it: it brings out grain, keeps the surface clean, and lets the natural contrast, epoxy details, and carved work remain the focus.
